Better Together: Red Light Therapy + Lymphatic Drainage

Why we pair NovoTHOR with the Renata França Method, and what’s actually happening beneath.

Some treatments are strong on their own. Together, they’re stronger.

At AKARI, two of our most requested sessions. Red Light Therapy on the NovoTHOR and the Renata França Method. Our signature lymphatic drainage massage in collaboration with Cyan Wellness, are increasingly booked as a pair. Not by accident. The two work on the same system, from two different angles, and clients tend to feel the difference.

The lymphatic system, briefly

Your lymphatic system is the body’s drainage network — a web of vessels that clears fluid, waste, and toxins from tissue and moves it back into circulation. Unlike your circulatory system, it has no central pump. It relies on movement, muscle contraction, and manual stimulation to keep flowing. When it slows down, from travel, heat, inactivity, or stress, you feel it: puffiness, heaviness, that general sense of holding onto more than you should.

What the massage does

The Renata França Method is a rhythmic, technique-driven form of manual lymphatic drainage developed in Brazil. It works directly on the vessels closest to the skin, encouraging fluid to move toward the lymph nodes where it can be processed and cleared. It’s the more immediate, hands-on half of the pairing — you feel lighter within a single session.

What the light does

Red and near-infrared light works differently. It doesn’t move fluid directly — it works at the cellular level. The wavelengths are absorbed by mitochondria, prompting cells to produce more energy, which in turn supports circulation and helps calm inflammation in the surrounding tissue. Because near-infrared light penetrates deeper than red light alone, it’s able to reach the layers where lymphatic vessels sit, not just the surface of the skin. Emerging research on photobiomodulation has looked at exactly this — light’s role in supporting fluid balance and easing tissue swelling — and the mechanism is consistent with what we see in clients who use the NovoTHOR regularly: less puffiness, better circulation, faster recovery after heat, travel, or exercise.

Why the combination works better

On their own, each treatment supports the lymphatic system in a real but partial way. Massage moves what’s already there. Light therapy supports the cellular environment that keeps the system functioning well in between sessions. Paired — light first to prime circulation and calm tissue, massage after to manually clear what’s been mobilized — clients consistently report a longer-lasting result than either treatment gives alone. It’s less about doing more, and more about doing it in the right order.

How we recommend booking it

We suggest starting with a NovoTHOR session, then moving into a Renata França Method massage while circulation is already elevated. For anyone recovering from a long-haul flight, a stretch of Dubai summer heat, or a heavier training block, this is the combination we point people toward first. Members with unlimited Red Light Therapy access will find this pairing especially easy to build into a regular rhythm.
